Work-in-process or WIP tracking is the practice of following orders through your process from raw goods to finished goods.  WIP allows managers to follow the progress of orders through the system allowing for accurate order completion and shipping estimates.

This may involve bar coded work orders or ‘traveler’ documents, and a means of scanning the steps in the process.  ADC has also implemented RFID-enabled work-in-process tracking systems that automatically track the progress of an assembly.
