One of the last areas to embrace automated data collection systems are companies working “outside the 4 walls” of the manufacturing plant or distribution center. So called Mobility applications utilize intelligent portable devices that are in fact mobile PCs.

Mobility applications can include mobile sales and inventory (route sales), proof-of-delivery, GPS tracking and optimized vehicle routing to reduce fuel costs, service dispatching and automation for field service organizations.

Devices such as the MC75 and MC55 from Motorola (formerly Symbol Technologies) are not only mobile computers; they also are cellular telephones, GPS receivers, bar code scanners, and digital cameras.
